By now, we’ve all heard the news that our great friend and champion, The Hon Joan Kirner AC, has passed away.
I said a few words in her memory last night and this morning, but nothing I say could ever capture the place she held in our hearts.
Joan fought for fairness every single day. Our state is stronger for her service and our lives are greater for her friendship.
She gave us so much of her time in her final years. We’re thankful for every second of it. She was a teacher to the end, and her counsel was always welcome.
She was our first female Labor Leader and our first Premier. Because of her work, she won’t be the last.
Joan will be farewelled this Friday, June 5, at a State Funeral to be held at 10am at the Williamstown Town Hall.
