Werribee Mansion

Today I took the grade 5s to Werribee Mansion on the outskirts of Melbourne.
This visit will be particularly useful when we are reading Turn of the Screw and The Moonstone.
the Chirnside family arrived in Victoria from Scotland in colonial times and created a vast pastoral empire. In the 1870s they built a gent Italianate mansion ( Victoria's largest) and they lived there until the 1920s. It then became a Catholic seminary and they built onto the original building which is now a hotel. Parks Victoria took over in the 1970s and restored the original building to its 1870s grandure.
