IBAC to reconvene next year

This message was released by the Secretary for Education today:

This morning, the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) announced that public hearings for Operation Dunham will be held, starting 15 February at the County Court of Victoria.

IBAC has informed us that this investigation will focus on the alleged conduct of current and former DET staff in the establishment and management of the Ultranet project, including DET procurement, financial management, conflict of interest and contract management.

Further information about the investigation can be found on the IBAC website, see: IBAC website

The Department referred its concerns about this matter to IBAC after its own initial investigation and we will continue to work closely with IBAC every step of the way.

As I have said to you before, corruption has no place in our Department. It is at odds with who we are and what we do.

What we learn from Operation Dunham will build on the significant progress we have already made together to build a culture of integrity across our system.

Operation Ord provided us with an opportunity to start this reform work, and I have no doubt this inquiry will only strengthen our collective resolve to effect cultural change.

I want to thank you for getting behind the Integrity Reforms we have put in place this year.

I understand that this inquiry, like the last, may have an impact on some staff. Support for staff, including those who may be called to give evidence, is available via our Edugate site, see: IBAC Investigation - Operation Dunham

Again, thank you for your professionalism and ongoing commitment to improving education outcomes in our state.
